About the Speaker
Kelly Garrett is the Director of Original Programming for Freeform (Formerly ABC Family). Freeform is cable network that is owned by the Disney-ABC Television Group division of The Walt Disney Company. Freeform primarily broadcasts programming geared towards teenagers and young adults – with some programming skewing towards young women – in the 14-34 age range, a target demographic designated by the channel as "becomers".

Garrett oversees such programs as the critically-acclaimed series “The Fosters,” which is executive produced by Jennifer Lopez and is about to air it’s 100th episode, sci-fi family drama “Beyond”, “Famous in Love” starring Bella Thorne, and multi-cam comedy “Young & Hungry.”  She is also overseeing the upcoming new series “Siren” which premieres this spring.  In the past she oversaw Peabody Award winning series “Switched at Birth” and procedural drama “Stitchers.” On top of original series, she oversees original movies including Freeform’s recent holiday movie “Angry Angel” starring Brenda Song and Jason Biggs.

Garrett started her career as a news producer in Wichita, Kansas before moving to Los Angeles to join the NBC Page Program. From there she worked as an assistant to Stephanie Germain, an executive producer of original TV movies, before moving on as Director of Development for Von Zerneck Sertner Films, an independent production company.  During her time at Von Zerneck Sertner Films, a company which focuses on original television movies, Garrett found and sold five movies, and had three produced (“See Jane Date,” “The Hunt for BTK,” “Cradle of Lies”).

Garrett started at Freeform in 2008, when it was known as ABC Family, in original movies and has since added current series to her slate.
