About the Event
Do you have a completed manuscript or even
an idea for a book? Would you like to gain insight
into how to land a mainstream book deal with an
advance? Whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction,
this intimate Q&A style workshop will revolutionize
your career as writer. Other topics that will
be discussed include: writing a winning book proposal,
querying book publishers and literary (book) agents,
as well as self publishing options. All participants
will have an opportunity to ask candid questions
directly to the speaker!
About the Speaker
Angela Marie Hutchinson is writer,
producer, casting director and university professor
who recently landed her first mainstream book
deal with an advance from a traditional publisher
that has published the literary works of John
C. Maxwell, Max Lucado and other bestselling books
from business and inspirational leaders. Hutchinson
will take you inside the journey of securing her
literary agent, landing her book deal PLUS practical
tips and advice for writers at all levels. Previously,
Hutchinson self published six books; she can provide
those tips too as the Publishing Director for
Hollywood & Vine Books. This May 2018, Hutchinson
signed her book deal with the largest woman-owned
trade book publisher in the U.S. The book's theme
is based on Hutchinson's TEDx Talk, "Create
Your Own Yes, When You Keep Hearing No."
The official press release about the book is coming
soon.
A Chicago native with 15 years of industry experience,
Hutchinson has worked for MGM, Warner Bros. Television
and the GRAMMYs. As a casting director, she has
cast veteran actors such as Billy Dee Williams,
Lynne Whitfield and Vanessa A. Williams. Hutchinson's
first feature film that she produced, wrote and
cast, "Hollywood Chaos," starred Vanessa
Simmons and aired on Hulu. Additionally, Hutchinson
directed and produced the PBS documentary, “H.U.S.H.,”
about Hollywood’s Uncovered Sexual Harassment.
In the last two years, Hutchinson has had over
a dozen unscripted television shows optioned by
various production companies in the US and Canada.
Prior, she was repped at ICM.
In 2005, Hutchinson was elected as the first African-American
president of the Scriptwriters Network, established
in 1986. After serving a year tenure, she founded
BReaKiNG iNTo HoLLyWooD, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization that has been helping entertainment
professionals since 2005 pursue their careers
with integrity, creativity and enthusiasm. An
alumnus of the University of Michigan, Hutchinson
earned her B.S.E. in Industrial & Operations
Engineering. She also has a Cross-Media Journalism
certificate from USC. As a former Los Angeles
City Official, Hutchinson maintains an active
role in her community. Currently, Hutchinson serves
as an adjunct professor at Loyola Marymount University,
teaching social media for business. In her leisure
time, Hutchinson enjoys rollerblading and spending
time with her rocket scientist husband of 15 years
and their three young children.
