About the
Speaker
Angela Marie Hutchinson
has worked for MGM, Warner Bros. Television
and the GRAMMYs. Earlier this summer in
2018, Angela applied for a $20,000 grant
and after the submission period was closed,
the grant-giving organization emailed out
the statistics about the submissions: there
were ONLY 40 submissions for the grant within
the entire County of Los Angeles. While
Angela sees the value in less competition,
she finds that statistic alarming for the
number of talented filmmakers, entrepreneurs
and nonprofits that are missing out on financial
opportunities in California and throughout
the U.S. Join Angela on 9/13/18 as she shares
her personal strategy on finding funding,
investors, as well as innovative ways to
secure money for media projects from successful
crowdfunding strategy and beyond.
Angela's first narrative feature film that
she wrote, cast and produced, "Hollywood
Chaos," she independently raised all
of the funds needed to produce the movie
under the SAG-indie Ultra Low Budget agreement
(under $200K). The film landed distribution
with Breaking Glass Pictures, and then aired
on Hulu and other networks. Angela's second
feature project, H.U.S.H., a documentary
film about Hollywood's Uncovered Sexual
Harrasment, aired on PBS. She received paid
advances for both of her film deals. Angela
has independently raised the funds to produce
films, numerous media projects and organizational
programs.
Angela has also appeared on BBC World
News, CBS News, NPR and FOX13. In May 2018,
Angela landed a mainstream book deal from
Sourcebooks, the largest woman-owned trade
book publisher in the U.S. Angela's book
will release in 2019 and is based on her
TEDx Talk, "Create Your Own Yes, When
You Keep Hearing No." A University
of Michigan graduate, Angela is married
to a rocket scientist and has three young
children.
